The most
useful volunteers are those who can interpret. All of them can speak Greek or
English and Arabic for the Syrians, Farsi, Urdu for the rest of the immigrants.
Most of the times the interpreters are immigrants themselves but have lived
long enough in Greece and have had Greek lessons. Most of them face the same
difficulties with every other immigrant, so this project has a double aim: For
the immigrants who have lived here to work and become part of our society, but
also for the newly arrived to receive services of communication and support.
Interpreters are needed everywhere, on the coast where immigrants arrive, in
the buses for information, at the centres of Moria, Kara Tepe, PIKPA, when
delivering the food, in every organizing activity. It is estimated that a monthly allowance of
800 euros for six days a week and eight hours a day would be satisfactory.
